We have a big heart, especially for kids who need our help. The Piggybank Fund targets projects and programs which benefit kids in our community. This year, the High Point Rotary Club’s Annual Barbecue event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, at First Presbyterian Church, located at 918 N. Main St., High Point, N.C.
Pork barbecue or chicken plates with all the trimmings are available for $10 each, with the option to eat-in, take-out, or have your plate delivered. Event attendees will enjoy live entertainment throughout the day. The High Point University ice cream truck will also be present from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., giving free ice cream with the purchase of a meal or auction item.

We have dedicated this year’s BBQ to Gina Jacobs, wife of Rotary member Dr. Curt Jacobs, whose boundless energy, passion to serve others, and million dollar smile was an inspiration to all of us. Gina was involved with many, many organizations in High Point, but of heartfelt interest were the children at Oak Hill Elementary School who will always remember the woman with the big, beautiful heart. Gina loved to serve others and was a lightening rod for making things happen. Whatever cause she took up, she did it with unequaled passion and commitment.
In August 2012, Gina was posthumously made a Paul Harris Fellow for her work in the community. She not only knew what “Service above Self” means, she lived it every moment of her much too short life.
When we developed the concept and name for the Piggy Bank Fund, Gina was our inspiration. Not only does it signify children and raising money to benefit them, our Piggy Bank is smiling and that, like Gina, will always bring a smile.
